Burglary Protection Safes

Burglary Protection safes (also known as strongboxes) are free standing safes that help protect from burglary attacks. At KUBS our safes are grouted to the floor. The Grouting helps mitigate any attempt by the burglar to move the safe.

Buying Tips – Burglary Protection Safes

  • Check for proper steel thickness- minimum a ½” thick solid steel door and a ¼” thick solid steel body.
  • Beware of thin sheet metal safes as well as ‘composite’ wood core or drywall safes.
  • Look for both door thickness and barrier material type & thickness.
  • The weight of a safe is important but it shouldn’t be the determining factor, grouting helps.
    • A safe’s weight need not be from solid steel alone, it can come from the concrete amalgamate.
    • To determine the amount of solid steel used by a safe, it’s still best to learn the actual steel thickness for both the door and walls.
  • Go for Safes with UL approved locks, the others namely the Chinese ones are highly undependable and prone to early failure.
  • Avoid fireboard or drywall based safes as they provide inferior fire protection also such safes provide virtually no burglary protection.
  • Check for re-lockers or hardened pins triggered during an attack which cannot be retracted without hours of drilling.
  • Always buy a safe as per your requirements, only KUBS offers segment specific safes. These are custom designed keeping in mind the segment’s unique requirements.

Installing Tips

  • Always grout the safe. It adds to the safe’s protection capabilities making it very difficult to carry the safe away.
  • If grouting the safe near a foundation wall ensure that gap is no more than 8″ as anything larger will make it easier to pull the safe away from the wall.
Fire Protection Safes

Fire Protection Safes are free standing safes that protect its contents from fire for a rated amount of time.

Advantages of Safes (Apart from Protection)

      2. Accessible Location- Fire Protection Safes are free standing safes that protect its contents from fire for a rated amount of time.

Buying Tips

  • Most Fire Protection Safes do not protect against burglars. The basic design of a fire protection safe is such that it makes for a poor burglary protection safe.
  • Avoid Fireboard based safes especially as they do not protect against burglars.
  • Fire Safes with outer sheet metal panel enforced also do not make for a reliable burglary protection safe.
  • If you do plan to buy a fireboard safe keep a dehumidifier handy as moisture from the fireboard can enter the safe’s interiors rusting metals and dampening paper based belongings.
  • Composite Cladded Fire Safes are the best bet for a Burglary cum Fire protection safe. The basic requirement is the same( ½” thick solid steel door and ¼” solid steel body and 2.5″ of concrete amalgamate).
  • Use the rating of the Safe as a reference for your decision to buy, ignore the rating of the insulating material as that does not reflect the protection capabilities of the safe.
  • For Ratings always look for those by independent labs like UL rating.
  • Always insist that the installation person check on your floor before installation. This is to make sure that your floor is capable of handling the excess weight. At KUBS, our installers always perform a mandatory check before installation.
